New York Times Games executive shot and killed in Dublin, California; in-laws arrested

<p>Jonathan McKinsey, a New York Times Games engineering executive, was shot and killed on Saturday afternoon in Dublin, California. His wife's parents were arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after the incident, according to authorities.</p><p>McKinsey, 40, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Dublin Sports Grounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by the City of Dublin.</p><p>A spokesperson for the New York Times confirmed that McKinsey served as director of engineering for New York Times Games and had been with the company since January 2023.</p><p>At approximately 3:08 p.m. local time on Saturday, a Dublin Police Services sergeant driving near the sports complex spotted a man lying in the parking lot and stopped to investigate.</p><p>Simultaneously, dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting, according to authorities.</p><p>Responding officers found McKinsey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. With assistance from witnesses, officers quickly identified and detained two suspects who remained at the scene, police stated.</p><p>The suspects were identified as Shouyong Zhang, 77, and Shili Chen, 77, both residents of Dublin. Officials indicated that the married couple are McKinsey's parents-in-law.</p><p>Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail, authorities reported.</p><p>Police stated that there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.</p><p>Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and have not yet released a possible motive.</p><p>Officials expressed gratitude to the witnesses and community members who assisted responding officers, noting that their cooperation was critical to the swift arrest of the suspects.</p><p>Dublin Police Services did not immediately respond to requests for comment.</p>
