FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey Announces Departure, Cites Family Reasons

<p>Andrew Bailey, the outgoing FBI co-deputy director, announced that he is leaving the agency to return to Missouri to raise his four children. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Bailey stated, "This was 100% about my need to get home and raise my four small children. I love my kids." He emphasized that his decision was not influenced by any turmoil within the bureau.</p><p>Bailey, who has served in the FBI for just over a year, rejected claims that issues at the bureau contributed to his departure. He criticized certain news outlets for spreading misinformation regarding his exit. He defended FBI Director Kash Patel, stating, "Any accusation that Director Patel has focused on anything other than fulfilling the president's promise to make America safe again are bold-faced lies."</p><p>In a statement, Patel praised Bailey's contributions to the FBI, noting that his leadership would be missed and thanking him for his dedication to the bureau's mission. Bailey had previously served as Missouri's attorney general before joining the FBI in 2025.</p><p>Bailey highlighted his commitment to child protection during his tenure, mentioning the addition of 55 agents to child protection efforts and an increase in victim service providers across the country. He described the FBI's victim services program as "top-notch" and stressed the importance of fulfilling moral and legal obligations regarding victim notification.</p><p>Bailey characterized his time at the FBI as part of a significant transformation of federal law enforcement under President Donald Trump and Patel. He noted the establishment of homeland security task forces and the designation of Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations as key developments that aided law enforcement efforts.</p><p>He also cited a reported 20% reduction in homicides, over 5,000 violent offenders arrested, and thousands of child victims identified and rescued as evidence of the administration's effective approach. Additionally, he mentioned the seizure of 3,258 kilograms of fentanyl and the arrest of more than 4,200 members of foreign terrorist organizations, although he did not specify the time frame for these figures.</p><p>Bailey explained the scale of the FBI, which employs approximately 38,000 individuals and includes 11,000 armed agents. He noted that the agency has shifted resources from headquarters to field offices to enhance operational effectiveness. He stated that more than 1,500 positions had been transferred to field offices, which has allowed agents to pursue leads more efficiently.</p><p>Regarding political considerations within the FBI, Bailey asserted that the agency's primary focus is on protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution. He did not comment on whether he had witnessed political influence on specific investigations or personnel decisions.</p><p>Bailey expressed his belief that the FBI had been "weaponized" against Trump and his family in the past and that Patel aims to refocus the bureau on its core mission. He anticipates returning to public service in the future but is currently focused on spending time with his family.</p>
