Former Auburn football staffer arrested for allegedly selling confidential information

David Rudolph Jenrath, a former football staffer at Auburn University, was arrested and charged with stealing trade secrets from the program and distributing them to competitors. He turned himself in to authorities on Monday in Alabama. According to a press release from the Auburn Police Department, a business reported that sensitive information was stolen and shared with competitors, with one competitor providing the information back to the business. Jenrath, 24, faces two felony charges: theft of trade secrets and computer tampering, and is currently held on a $15,000 bond at Lee County Jail. An arrest warrant was issued for him on Thursday. The police report did not specify which schools received the stolen information, but it noted that the incident occurred at the Auburn Athletics Complex on July 19. Reports indicate that Jenrath sent material related to the football program’s recruiting evaluations. A LinkedIn profile, which has since been taken down, identified him as a former player personnel scouting assistant for Auburn, focusing on running backs and special teams, a role he held from January to June. The charging documents allege that Jenrath obtained and retained confidential information from Auburn University Athletics and communicated or transmitted it without the owners’ consent. Auburn University has not publicly commented on the matter. Jenrath studied sports analytics and applied artificial intelligence at the University of Tennessee and is from Ardmore, Alabama. Auburn's football team has started the 2026 season with a 3-1 record overall and 1-1 in the SEC, with their only loss to the Florida Gators.
