Germany's Coalition Government Discusses Care System Reform Package

The coalition government in Germany is working to conclude discussions regarding a care reform package. The proposed reforms, introduced by conservative Health Minister Carsten Linnemann, have sparked debate within the coalition. These proposals have faced skepticism from Linnemann. The need for reform is driven by the increasing number of individuals requiring care due to an aging population, which has led to rising costs. The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV) estimates a shortfall of €4.4 billion ($5 billion) for this year and €10 billion in 2027. The coalition government is under pressure to reach an agreement on the reforms. Additionally, police actions against a money-laundering network and biker gangs were reported, and starting in October, alcohol consumption at all German train stations will be restricted to restaurant areas.
