Funeral planned for 105 victims of Israeli air strikes in Gaza

Palestinians are preparing to bury the remains of 105 individuals killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza City in October 2023. The victims died in a series of air strikes that involved at least 20 bombs, which destroyed the seven-storey Al Taj 3 building and several other residential structures in the Yarmouk Square neighborhood on October 25, 2023. Family members will carry the coffins in a funeral procession on Thursday, as stated by the General Directorate of Civil Defence. The remains will be interred at the Sheikh Radwan cemetery, located northwest of Gaza City. Gaza’s civil defense reported that the recovery operation was conducted in coordination with an Egyptian committee. Al Jazeera correspondent Ibrahim Khalili noted that this recovery operation was the fifth largest since the onset of the conflict in October 2023, based on the number of bodies retrieved. Abdul al-Majdalawi, the civil defense operations director, mentioned that accessing the bodies during the attack was “impossible.” He added that civil defense teams faced direct targeting of their equipment, including bulldozers and excavators. Osama Sharaf reported that 37 members of his family were killed in the attack, with 16 bodies recovered recently, including those of his father, mother, and siblings.
