Pakistan summons Indian diplomat following border incident resulting in civilian deaths

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry summoned India's charge d’affaires to protest the killing of two Pakistani civilians by Indian Border Security Force personnel. India rejected the allegations and summoned Pakistan's diplomat, citing illegal cross-border infiltration. The incident has further strained relations between the two countries, which have been tense since a deadly attack in Kashmir in April 2025.

Islamabad’s Foreign Ministry summoned India’s charge d’affaires to protest the killing of two Pakistani civilians. Pakistan and India exchanged diplomatic summons over a border incident on Friday, with New Delhi rejecting Islamabad’s account of the event that left two unarmed Pakistani civilians dead.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry stated on Saturday that the two were killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Bedian sector along the international border. Another individual was reportedly wounded.

The ministry's statement described the BSF's actions as 'unprovoked and lethal force against unarmed civilians,' asserting that such use of force was 'wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate,' resulting in the loss of two lives. In response, Pakistan summoned India’s charge d’affaires to formally protest the killings.

India’s Foreign Ministry later dismissed the allegations as 'baseless and motivated.' It stated that it had summoned the charge d’affaires of the Pakistan High Commission to protest against the 'continued facilitation of illegal cross-border infiltration from Pakistan.'

According to the Indian ministry, three individuals had crossed into Indian territory in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab and continued towards the border fence despite multiple warnings from the BSF to return to Pakistan. 'The BSF was compelled to engage them for posing an imminent security threat,' the ministry said.

The Pakistani ministry categorically rejected any characterization of those killed as 'infiltrators.' It urged India to conduct an immediate, transparent, and credible investigation, take appropriate disciplinary and legal action against those responsible, and formally communicate the findings and actions taken to the Pakistani government.

India responded by stating that the incident reflected 'a clear pattern of repeated cross-border movement by armed narcotics syndicates operating from Pakistan' and called on Islamabad to investigate what it described as cross-border infiltration and drug-smuggling activities.

Relations between the two countries have remained tense since an armed attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir in April 2025, which resulted in 26 fatalities and triggered a four-day conflict. New Delhi continues to accuse Pakistan of supporting the assault, a claim that Islamabad denies.
