Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. Ambassador to Greece and former campaign surrogate for President Donald Trump, has resigned following a request from the White House amid an ongoing misconduct investigation. In a post on X, Guilfoyle stated, "Serving as the United States Ambassador to Greece has been the honor of a lifetime," and addressed the allegations against her, claiming they are false and that she intends to defend her reputation. White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the resignation during her first press briefing, stating, "We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well." President Trump commented on Guilfoyle's performance, noting that while she was doing a good job, the administration was concerned about the allegations being reported. Guilfoyle, 57, has been under investigation by the State Department's inspector general's office, as reported by two sources. Allegations include claims that she boasted about her connections to wealthy Greek individuals who funded her luxury trips. Additionally, Trump donor Eric Deters accused Guilfoyle of soliciting him to pay her $100,000 American Express bill in exchange for access to senior officials. Deters described this as a quid pro quo arrangement. Guilfoyle's attorneys have denied any wrongdoing, asserting that Deters owed her money for speaking engagements. They also stated that she adhered to State Department travel regulations. When asked about a potential investigation into Guilfoyle's conduct, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro referred to the ongoing State Department probe.
