Spencer Pratt Advances to Runoff in Los Angeles Mayoral Race Against Karen Bass

<p>Spencer Pratt, a reality television personality, is positioned to advance in the Los Angeles mayoral race as he seeks to unseat incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in the upcoming November runoff. Bass, who has been in office since 2022, did not secure a majority of the vote in the primary election held on Tuesday, leading to a runoff between the top two candidates.</p><p>In the primary, no candidate surpassed the 50% threshold, resulting in Bass and Pratt moving forward to the runoff. Bass has received endorsements from Governor Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris, and has a long history of public service in California.</p><p>As of Wednesday morning, Pratt, known for his role in the MTV reality show "The Hills," was in second place. He expressed his views on the election results, stating, "Obviously, God wanted five more months of me exposing the failures of our mayor." Pratt has criticized Bass on various issues, including fire recovery, homelessness, and crime, attributing personal responsibility to her for the wildfires that affected his home.</p><p>Pratt's rise in the race has reportedly sidelined Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman, who was also a candidate in the primary. Raman, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has not yet conceded the race.</p><p>Despite being a registered Republican, Pratt faces challenges in the runoff, as less than 20% of voters in Los Angeles identify with the GOP, although the mayoral election is officially nonpartisan.</p><p>Representative Darrell Issa commented on Pratt's growing support, attributing it to voter dissatisfaction with Bass's leadership. In contrast, Bass maintains that her administration is making progress in addressing issues such as homelessness and public safety.</p>
