Porsche unveiled the Mission S concept in New York, a mid-engined sports car that will be positioned above the 911 in its lineup. Unlike previous limited-run models such as the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder, the Mission S will be a regular production vehicle. This launch is part of Porsche's strategy to improve its financial performance by 2035.
The company has faced challenges recently, with its profit margin dropping from 18 percent three years ago to just 1 percent last year. Although there has been some recovery, Porsche aims to return to double-digit profit margins by 2035 through its plan named "Sportwagenschmiede '35." This strategy focuses on prioritizing value over volume, offering greater customization for customers, and achieving higher selling prices.
Porsche Chairman Michael Leiters stated, "We are pursuing a clear plan with our strategy Sportwagenschmiede '35. The ultimate goal is to further strengthen our unique sports car brand–across all model lines and with new, highly desirable models in particularly high-margin segments."
