Detective Arrested for Pointing Gun at Fellow Officer Over Microwave Dispute

On June 3, a detective in Myrtle Beach was arrested after allegedly pointing his firearm at a fellow officer during a dispute over the use of a microwave to heat fish. The incident occurred at police headquarters on May 30, when Detective Michael DeBiase, 46, confronted a patrolman about the odor produced by the microwaved fish. According to an arrest warrant, DeBiase drew his department-issued handgun during the confrontation. He was charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, a felony, and was booked into Horry County jail, from which he was later released without bail. Following the incident, DeBiase was placed on administrative leave, and an internal investigation led to his termination due to several identified policy violations.
