Spencer Pratt Advances in LA Mayoral Race, Set for Runoff Against Karen Bass

<p>Spencer Pratt, a reality television personality, is positioned to advance in the Los Angeles mayoral race as he seeks to unseat incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in the upcoming runoff election scheduled for November. Bass, who has held the mayoral position since 2022, did not secure a majority of the votes in the primary election held on Tuesday, leading to a runoff between the top two candidates.</p><p>Despite endorsements from Governor Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris, Bass's failure to achieve a majority represents a significant challenge for her campaign. As of Wednesday morning, Pratt was reported to be in second place.</p><p>Pratt, known for his role on the MTV reality show "The Hills," expressed confidence in his campaign, stating, "Obviously, God wanted five more months of me exposing the failures of our mayor." He has criticized Bass on various issues affecting the city, including fire recovery, homelessness, and crime, holding her accountable for the impact of wildfires that destroyed numerous structures, including his own home.</p><p>Pratt's rise in the polls has resulted in the exclusion of Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman from the runoff, who was previously seen as a potential challenger to Bass. Raman has not yet conceded the race.</p><p>As a registered Republican, Pratt faces challenges in the heavily Democratic city, where less than 20% of voters identify with the GOP. However, the mayoral election is officially nonpartisan.</p><p>Representative Darrell Issa noted that Pratt's appeal among voters stems from dissatisfaction with Bass's leadership. In contrast, Bass maintains that her administration is making progress in addressing issues such as homelessness and public safety, as stated on her campaign website.</p>
