Brexton Busch Returns to Racing After Father's Death

Brexton Busch, the 11-year-old son of NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, returned to the racetrack on June 4, 2026, for the first time since his father's death nearly two weeks earlier. He participated in practice laps at Charlotte Motor Speedway ahead of the CookOut Summer Shootout, a Legend Car Series race. Kyle Busch, 41, passed away unexpectedly due to complications from pneumonia that led to sepsis. A private memorial service was held for him, with a public memorial planned for later this year. The Busch family, along with Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR, expressed their sorrow over Kyle Busch's sudden passing, highlighting his achievements in the sport, including two Cup championships and a record number of wins in various NASCAR series. Following his death, Richard Childress Racing announced they would suspend the use of Busch's No. 8 car until Brexton is eligible to race. Brexton has been racing for several years, and his father often supported him during his races. He will be eligible to compete in the Truck Series when he turns 16, while the age limit for the NASCAR Cup Series is 18.
