Israel and Lebanon Agree to Ceasefire Amid Ongoing Hostilities

The Israeli government and the Lebanese government have agreed to implement a ceasefire to end hostilities, as announced by the Trump administration. However, the ceasefire is contingent upon a complete cessation of fire from Hezbollah and the evacuation of its fighters from the area south of the Litani River. Hezbollah was not involved in the negotiations. In recent developments, Israeli drone strikes have targeted three hospitals in southern Lebanon, resulting in over 150 injuries and nine fatalities. The Israeli military stated that it struck Hezbollah infrastructure near Tyre but acknowledged that one hospital was affected incidentally. The Trump administration's stance on the War Powers Resolution is also notable, as it has rejected the need for congressional approval to continue military actions, citing a temporary ceasefire in place since April 8, which has been violated multiple times by the US, Israel, and Iran.
