Gonia stated on social media that the outdoor clothing brand is attempting to undermine his advocacy efforts.</p><p>Patagonia made the settlement offer on Instagram on June 1, requesting that Wiley withdraw trademark applications, cease using their logos, and stop selling products under the Pattie Gonia name. The company indicated that if these conditions were met, Gonia could continue his work as a performer and activist.</p><p>In response, Wiley rejected the offer, stating, "If I can’t do partnerships as Pattie Gonia, it breaks the whole ecosystem of advocacy and community engagement." The situation has led to polarized discussions online, with many LGBTQ advocates accusing Patagonia of homophobia and vowing to boycott the brand.</p><p>Prior to the lawsuit, Patagonia and Hydro Flask had communicated in 2022 to prevent customer confusion regarding a collaboration with Pattie Gonia. An agreement was reached that Wiley would not use Patagonia's logo or name on products. However, Wiley's 2025 merchandise included items featuring phrases and logos similar to Patagonia's branding.</p><p>Patagonia addressed this breach in an email, reiterating support for Wiley's work but insisting that the Pattie Gonia persona not be commercialized. The company requested that Wiley discontinue sales of products using Pattie Gonia branding that closely resembled Patagonia's logos.</p><p>The lawsuit, filed on January 21, was a response to Wiley's trademark application for the Pattie Gonia brand. Patagonia emphasized that the legal action is not about financial gain or challenging advocacy rights, but rather about protecting its business interests.</p>
