Comedian and political commentator Bill Maher announced his participation in an upcoming documentary about the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk, cofounder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Maher expressed that Kirk was often portrayed more negatively than warranted, stating, "I liked him as a person; I’m glad I talked to him. I do not think he was a monster, and if you look at his statements, I’ve read the full statements." Maher acknowledged that Kirk faced backlash from Democrats and left-wing activists for his statements on various issues, including race, women, and the LGBTQ community, as well as for his conservative positions on abortion, gun control, and DEI programs.
Maher noted that while he disagreed with many of Kirk's views, he felt some criticisms were overly harsh. He concluded with the remark, "everybody’s a monster till you talk to them."
