Rep. August Pfluger, Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, expressed optimism about a potential third reconciliation package during an interview on the Ruthless Podcast. He stated that the package would focus on issues such as affordability, fraud, and defense. Reconciliation allows legislation to pass in the Senate with a simple majority, unlike most legislation that requires 60 votes to overcome a filibuster.
The House is expected to vote on a second reconciliation bill focused on immigration later this week, which the Senate approved last week. Pfluger noted the need for reconciliation to fund the Department of Homeland Security and related agencies. He emphasized the importance of addressing constituents' concerns about rising costs in housing, energy, and healthcare.
Pfluger believes that taking action on these issues will provide Republicans with a platform for the upcoming midterm elections. He highlighted the need to engage with supporters and address concerns about fraud in various states. The interview was part of the Ruthless Midterm Interview Series, which aims to engage with candidates across the country ahead of the November 3rd general election.
