Trump and Rubio Discuss Potential Iran Peace Deal

Both Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism regarding the potential agreement, although Iran highlighted that unresolved issues persist. Over the weekend, Trump mentioned that the peace deal is 'largely negotiated,' while Rubio suggested that an announcement regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could come soon. Rubio noted, 'I wouldn’t read too much into it. It takes a little while to hear back from Iran.' Trump also instructed negotiators not to rush the agreement. Iran acknowledged some agreement on certain aspects but raised concerns about 'frequent changes' and contradictions from the U.S. side. Iranian officials met with Qatari leaders to discuss outstanding issues related to the peace deal. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly expressed frustration over his limited influence on the negotiations and concerns about the ongoing military operations against perceived threats. The draft memorandum of understanding includes a 60-day ceasefire extension, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and commitments from Iran regarding nuclear weapons. Trump stated on Truth Social that negotiations with Iran are progressing and emphasized the importance of signing the Abraham Accords for regional cooperation. He requested that all countries, including Iran, sign the Accords to join the coalition aimed at peace in the region.
