The meeting comes as pressure increases on Trump to nominate a permanent director of national intelligence, which some Republicans believe is necessary to save Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. This section, which allows U.S. intelligence agencies to collect communications of foreign targets without a court warrant, is set to expire at midnight on Thursday. While intended for non-Americans abroad, the program can also capture communications involving Americans.
