Penn State Student Killed in Armed Robbery Attempt

Surveillance video captured the moments before a Pennsylvania State University student, Billy Schmidt, 22, was killed during an armed robbery attempt on Saturday around 1:30 a.m. in Philadelphia. Police reported that Schmidt was found with a gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at 1:47 a.m. Witnesses heard Schmidt say, "Give me my phone," before a gunshot was fired. Schmidt's father stated that his son was returning from a bar where he had been watching the NBA Finals with friends. Additional security footage shows a man throwing a cellphone before another individual was seen running away, chased by Schmidt, who was then shot. His father described him as a caring person, expressing shock over the incident. Schmidt was studying journalism at Penn State World Campus and was expected to graduate in December. The university expressed condolences to his family and friends. As of now, police have not made any arrests in connection with the case, and a neighbor has urged anyone with information to come forward.
