Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS) stated her commitment to protecting and strengthening Social Security benefits for Americans in a post on X. She emphasized that Social Security is a promise made to citizens and expressed concern that the current administration is jeopardizing it by reducing services and accessing personal data.
According to the United States Committee on Finance, a Republican budget bill passed on July 4, 2025, is expected to accelerate the depletion of the Social Security trust funds. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) commented on August 5, 2025, that the bill would bring Social Security closer to insolvency, following significant tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy.
Davids noted that Congress is awaiting an update on the future of Social Security. The Social Security Administration projects that the combined Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Disability Insurance Trust Funds will have sufficient revenue to cover benefits until 2032. However, Davids warned that if Congress does not act, approximately 70 million Americans could face a 20% reduction in benefits within six years, potentially resulting in cuts of hundreds of dollars monthly.
