LOS ANGELES — Representative Kevin Kiley (I-CA) will compete against Richard Pan in the upcoming November election for California’s 6th Congressional District. This follows the recent primary election where Kiley received 45,006 votes (24.5%) and Pan received 42,587 votes (23.2%), edging out Republican Michael Stansfield, who garnered 36,961 votes (20.1%). The Associated Press confirmed that Pan will advance to the runoff.
Kiley, who previously represented the 3rd Congressional District, announced his independent candidacy for the 6th District after the redistricting process altered his previous district. He expressed concerns about partisanship in Congress and emphasized his commitment to representing his constituents over party leaders.
Pan, a pediatrician and former state lawmaker, aims to hold Kiley accountable for his support of certain healthcare policies. He is known for his role in implementing strict vaccine mandates in California. The election will take place under California's jungle primary system, where the top two candidates advance if no candidate secures a majority of the votes.
