He described Platner as a "phony" and criticized his campaign amid ongoing controversies. Despite these challenges, Platner secured 72% of the Democratic primary vote. The National Republican Senatorial Committee emphasized the importance of supporting Collins in her campaign, as her seat is crucial for the Republicans to maintain their Senate majority.
