Mississippi teenager arrested after allegedly killing elderly couple and engaging in standoff with police

A Mississippi teenager, Cordarius Hobbs, 17, is accused of breaking into the home of an elderly couple, Billy Blair, 74, and Virginia Carol Blair, 71, and killing them on June 3. The Simpson County Sheriff's Office responded to the couple's home around 12:24 p.m. after family members reported being unable to contact them. Upon arrival, deputies encountered gunfire from the suspect. According to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Bailey Martin, the deputies and civilians were in danger due to the ongoing gunfire. Sheriff Bryan Bailey stated that Hobbs initially indicated he would surrender but fled through the back of the house, leading to a chase in which one deputy was shot. Hobbs was later apprehended after being shot by a Mississippi state trooper and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of capital murder and several counts of aggravated assault. The couple's family expressed their grief in a statement, and a friend described them as selfless individuals.
