Shooting in Midland, Texas, results in one death and nine injuries; suspect deceased

MIDLAND, Texas (AP) — A shooting incident in Midland, Texas, occurred on Friday, resulting in one death and at least nine injuries. The suspect died following a standoff with police. The active shooter situation unfolded in a part of the city before concluding near a veterinary hospital. The cause of the suspect's death has not been disclosed. Midland Mayor Lori Blong confirmed that authorities utilized robot and drone footage to verify the suspect's status. Witness Andrea Mendias reported hearing what sounded like a small explosion and approximately 40 gunshots. Video footage captured police officers responding with armored vehicles and deploying robots in the area. Midland Memorial Hospital reported that four individuals underwent surgery, while three were treated and released. Two others remain in stable condition. Midland, with a population of about 140,000, is located in Texas's oil region and has a history of gun violence, including a mass shooting in 2019 that resulted in seven deaths.
