Karmelo Anthony, 19, was found guilty on June 13, 2026, for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a track meet on April 2, 2025. Washington Examiner columnist Guy Benson stated that Anthony's family invoked racial stereotypes during the case. Benson made these comments during an appearance on Fox News’s 'Outnumbered'.
During the trial, several students testified that Metcalf asked Anthony to leave his team’s tent before the incident occurred. While both sides' attorneys claimed race did not play a role in the stabbing, social media discussions highlighted the racial backgrounds of the two individuals involved, with Anthony being Black and Metcalf being White.
Benson criticized Anthony’s family for expressing concern over the jury's composition, which they described as all-white. He asserted that a conviction was a form of justice. Additionally, he accused Anthony's father of lying about the jury's makeup. Following the trial, the Metcalf family reported receiving death threats, which Benson condemned as 'evil and demented'.
