Police Respond to Disturbance at Long Beach After Teen Gathering

On June 11, police responded to a large gathering of teenagers at Horny Corner beach in Long Beach, California, which escalated into fights. Video footage showed hundreds of teenagers at the beach and surrounding areas on the first night of summer break for several local schools. Residents reported disturbances, prompting police intervention. Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish stated that such large-scale disturbances divert resources from other safety concerns. Officers arrived within five minutes of the first call and began dispersing the crowd of approximately 200 teenagers. Multiple teens were detained for curfew violations, but no arrests were made. The gathering, initially a celebration of the end of the school year, led to concerns from residents about safety and behavior.
