Senator Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, was hospitalized for an undisclosed health issue, as reported by his office. David Popp, McConnell's Communications Director, stated that he was admitted to the hospital on the morning of June 14, 2026, and is receiving care. McConnell, who is the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history, was previously hospitalized for eight days earlier this year due to flu-like symptoms. The 84-year-old senator announced in February that he would not seek reelection and plans to retire when his current term ends in January 2027. He has experienced a series of health issues in recent years, including injuries from falls and episodes where he briefly froze while speaking publicly. Currently, only Senators Chuck Grassley and Bernie Sanders are older than McConnell in Congress.
