Brenda Rivera Estrada, a 30-year-old woman, has been indicted on manslaughter charges related to a rollover crash that resulted in the death of her nine-year-old daughter in Arizona. The incident occurred on April 12 on northbound Interstate 17 near Cactus Road in Phoenix. According to prosecutors, toxicology results indicated that Rivera Estrada had methamphetamine and marijuana in her system at the time of the crash.
Authorities reported that Rivera Estrada's daughter was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover, while three other children in the SUV sustained minor injuries. Witnesses claimed that Rivera Estrada was driving above the posted speed limit of 65 mph.
The Maricopa County grand jury indicted her on one count of manslaughter, three counts of endangerment, one count of possession or use of dangerous drugs, and one count of possession or use of drug paraphernalia. Rivera Estrada is currently being held on a $250,000 cash bond.
ICE officials confirmed that Rivera Estrada is a Mexican national who entered the United States in February 2009 and remained beyond her authorized stay. The indictment follows a period of investigation that included toxicology and crash reconstruction results, as stated by Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, who emphasized the need for thorough evidence gathering in complex cases.
