Kerry Sheron, a 69-year-old owner of a home in Escondido, California, known for its pro-Trump decorations, died on May 26 after sustaining injuries from an alleged assault. The incident occurred on May 20 when Sheron was reportedly punched by Thomas Butler, a 32-year-old Navy veteran. After falling, Sheron was struck multiple times in the head.
Deputy District Attorney Ross Garcia stated that Butler has been charged with attempted murder, elder abuse, criminal threats, and battery, and remains in jail without bail. The motive for the attack has not been confirmed, although it is suggested that it may relate to Sheron's political displays.
Sheron had previously reported vandalism at his home, which he attributed to his political beliefs. Following his death, local residents gathered to express their condolences. Sheron's wife, Maria, indicated that the attack may have been motivated by the pro-Trump displays outside their home. Vista Mayor John Franklin called for a denouncement of political violence in light of the incident.
