Mitch McConnell, the former Senate Majority Leader, was hospitalized on Sunday morning, but his office has not disclosed the reason for his hospitalization or details about his condition. John Thune, McConnell's successor, stated that he has spoken with McConnell, who is eager to return but is deferring to his staff regarding his timeline. Thune noted that McConnell remains engaged with Senate activities. McConnell's spokesperson mentioned that he is grateful for his care. This hospitalization marks the second time this year that McConnell has been hospitalized; he previously spent eight days in care in February for flu-like symptoms. He has also experienced falls in recent years, including one that resulted in a concussion in March 2023. McConnell has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and is set to retire at the end of his seventh term in January 2027.
