Rep. Kevin Hern Wins Republican Senate Primary in Oklahoma

Rep. Kevin Hern, a Republican from Oklahoma, has won the Republican Senate primary, according to projections from NBC News. This victory positions him favorably for the general election to fill the open Senate seat previously held by Markwayne Mullin, who resigned in March to join the Cabinet as Homeland Security Secretary. Hern, who has represented Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District since 2018, is a member of the Ways and Means Committee. Before his congressional career, he was a franchisee for McDonald's. Alan Armstrong was appointed to temporarily fill the Senate seat until the fall election. Hern received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump in March, who praised him on Truth Social, calling him a 'Great Patriot' and a 'true friend of MAGA.' Hern has actively supported Trump's policies and has highlighted economic successes attributed to the former president. Oklahoma is considered a strong Republican state, having given Trump a 34-point victory in the 2024 election.
