Keith Jesperson warns Rex Heuermann of potential prison challenges

Keith Jesperson, known as the "Happy Face Killer," has communicated with Rex Heuermann, who is facing sentencing for multiple murders. Jesperson expressed concerns that Heuermann may encounter difficulties in prison due to his size and ego. Jesperson stated that smaller inmates also work out and may pose a threat, even in protective custody. Heuermann is currently held at Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead, New York, and is scheduled to be transferred to a state prison following his sentencing on June 17. Jesperson, who has corresponded with Heuermann since his arrest, noted that Heuermann had little to gain from going to trial given the evidence against him, which includes DNA linked to his family on some victims. Heuermann's ex-wife, Asa Ellerup, has stated she will not attend the sentencing, emphasizing that the focus should remain on the victims and their families. Jesperson indicated that Heuermann might be advised against making a statement during sentencing, although his legal team may encourage him to do so. Heuermann has pleaded guilty to the murders of seven women and is expected to receive multiple life sentences without parole.
