Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, stated in a podcast interview on June 17, 2026, that he should not have accepted a position on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. During the interview on Dax Shepard's podcast, 'Armchair Expert,' Biden addressed accusations regarding his involvement with Burisma, saying, 'The validity is that I should never have taken the board seat with Burisma.'
Biden joined Burisma in April 2014 while his father was Vice President of the United States and overseeing U.S.-Ukraine relations. He explained that he was initially approached to represent Burisma as a lawyer before being persuaded to join the board by former Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski. Biden emphasized that he had prior experience serving on multiple boards and had legitimate credentials as a lawyer. He acknowledged that his decision to join the board was a mistake but stated it was not due to any wrongdoing on his part or his father's.
Biden also mentioned that there is no evidence to support claims that he used his father's position to benefit Burisma. He expressed that he takes responsibility for the perception created by his board membership.
