SLED joins investigation after body matching description of missing South Carolina personal trainer found

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has joined an investigation following the discovery of a body in a wooded area where Elena Katherine Moore, a 39-year-old personal trainer, was last seen. Moore was reported missing after leaving a Planet Fitness gym in Lexington on Thursday evening, prompting a six-day search. The Lexington Police Department (LPD) stated that the body has not yet been formally identified but matches the clothing description of Moore. The case is now classified as an active death investigation, with SLED assisting in determining the cause of death and confirming the identity. LPD Chief Terrence Green reported that the body was found after a citizen tip led to a targeted search. The body was wearing a green outfit similar to what Moore was seen wearing on surveillance footage. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy in the coming days. No cause of death has been determined, and authorities have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected.
