JD Vance Joins Negotiations in Switzerland with Kushner and Witkoff Regarding Iran

Vice President JD Vance arrived in Switzerland early Sunday to participate in negotiations with Iran, following a ceasefire agreement. Vance landed shortly before 6 a.m. local time and is expected to collaborate with White House officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Swiss officials confirmed the arrival of the Iranian delegation, which is traveling to Bürgenstock for the discussions. These negotiations were initially scheduled for Friday but were postponed by Switzerland's foreign ministry. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also expected to attend. The talks follow a memorandum of understanding signed by President Trump with Iran, establishing a 60-day ceasefire and a framework for further negotiations. In a post on Truth Social, Trump indicated potential tolls in the Strait of Hormuz if an agreement is not reached before the ceasefire expires. Before leaving Joint Base Andrews, Vance expressed that a successful trip would involve setting up the negotiation framework. He mentioned focusing on the nuclear issue and the Lebanon ceasefire during discussions. Vance is expected to remain in Switzerland for one or two days. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will also participate in technical-level discussions.
