Nicholas Rossi, a convicted rapist and fugitive, died in a Utah jail at the age of 38. The Utah Department of Corrections confirmed his death on June 26, 2026, stating that he died from complications of an existing medical condition after choosing to discontinue medical treatment. Rossi was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 8:32 p.m. on June 25, 2026. His family and victims were notified prior to the public announcement.
Rossi was serving a sentence of 10 years to life for two counts of first-degree felony rape after being extradited to the U.S. in 2024. He had previously faked his own death in February 2020 to evade law enforcement, fleeing to Europe and assuming a new identity. He was apprehended in Scotland in 2022 when hospital staff recognized him from Interpol wanted posters after he was admitted with COVID-19. Rossi's true identity was confirmed through DNA, fingerprints, and an analysis of his tattoos.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill commented on Rossi's death, noting that he died in prison with the knowledge of his guilt, providing some consolation to the survivors of his crimes.
