U.S. Military Strikes Iran Following Ceasefire Violation

The U.S. military conducted airstrikes against Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites on Friday. This action followed accusations from President Donald Trump that Iran had violated a ceasefire agreement by launching drone attacks at ships in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command reported that a one-way attack drone from Iran struck the Singapore-flagged cargo ship Ever Lovely in the strait, although the vessel continued its journey. Trump stated that U.S. forces intercepted three other attack drones aimed at ships in the area. Central Command emphasized that Iran's actions undermined freedom of navigation in this critical trade corridor. The strikes occurred shortly after a memorandum of understanding was signed by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, aimed at establishing a permanent peace deal. Vice President JD Vance commented on the situation, asserting that the U.S. had honored the ceasefire agreement. In response, Iranian officials condemned the U.S. actions, claiming they violated negotiation principles and threatened retaliation. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that they would respond decisively to the U.S. attack, but later, another Iranian media outlet reported that the IRGC denied making such statements, claiming misinformation had circulated.
