Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden after Biden filed a federal lawsuit to prevent the Justice Department from releasing audio recordings related to a special counsel investigation. The lawsuit aims to block the release of materials connected to interviews conducted during the writing of Biden's 2017 memoir, 'Promise Me, Dad.' Trump expressed his views on Truth Social, labeling Biden as 'A Crooked Politician.'
Biden's legal team argues that releasing the recordings would invade his privacy, as the conversations took place in his home and involved personal matters, including the illness and death of his son, Beau. They stated, 'Every American, including a sitting or former Vice President, has a right to privacy in the personal conversations he has within his own home.'
The lawsuit also claims that Trump's Justice Department reversed its previous legal stance regarding the release of the recordings after he returned to office. The recordings gained political significance following references in Robert Hur's report, which investigated Biden's handling of classified documents and described him as having a 'poor memory.' Although Hur did not recommend charges against Biden, Trump has used the situation to argue that there is a political double standard in how investigations are handled.
