New York gubernatorial candidate Blakeman critiques Mamdani's policies

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman has stated that he intends to oppose New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's agenda if elected in November. Blakeman expressed concerns that proposals such as government-run grocery stores, tax increases, and increased public spending could harm New York's economy and lead to a loss of businesses and residents. He emphasized that he would not need to collaborate with Mamdani, asserting that Mamdani would need to work with him instead. Blakeman criticized Mamdani's proposals, particularly the idea of city-owned grocery stores, arguing that the government should not compete with local businesses. He labeled the proposal as 'complete nonsense' and claimed it would ultimately burden taxpayers. Blakeman's campaign platform includes tax cuts, reduced utility costs, and a shift away from New York's sanctuary state status, promising to sign an executive order to end it on his first day in office. He also proposed eliminating state income tax for single filers earning $50,000 or less and joint filers earning up to $100,000. In response, a spokesperson for Governor Kathy Hochul dismissed Blakeman's proposals, suggesting they cater to far-right interests. Mamdani's office has not yet commented on the matter.
