Two sisters and a friend have been charged with murder following the stabbing death of Caroline "Caro" Peña, a 32-year-old mother of five, in Del Rio, Texas. The suspects, Kitty Mia Diaz, 21; Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19; and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, were arrested on Thursday after the incident, which occurred in broad daylight at a busy intersection. Peña was reportedly stabbed multiple times and later died from her injuries at a San Antonio medical facility.
Authorities responded to Val Verde Regional Medical Center around 2:10 p.m. on Thursday after receiving reports of a woman with stab wounds. Investigators indicated that Peña suffered two stab wounds to her back and one to her stomach. Surveillance footage and witness interviews led to the identification of the suspects, who were arrested later that day. The motive for the attack has not been disclosed.
Peña is survived by her five children and a twin sister. Friends described her as a caring individual who loved being a mother. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as evidence is gathered.
