California Senator Scott Wiener Confronted at Trans March Over Gaza

California state Senator Scott Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco, left the Trans March at Dolores Park on Friday after being confronted by demonstrators regarding his stance on Israel and Gaza. Video footage showed several individuals surrounding Wiener and shouting profanities. One demonstrator, Dimitry Yakoushkin, criticized Wiener’s policies, stating, "I think your policy on the genocide is terrible!" and accused him of betraying the LGBT community due to his support for Israel. Wiener, who has attended the Trans March since its inception in 2004, reported that he was harassed both verbally and physically during the incident. He noted that the group made aggressive statements regarding his connections to Israel, which he described as inaccurate and extreme. Following the confrontation, Wiener received support from various political figures, including California Senate President Pro Tempore Monique Limón and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie, who condemned the language used against him as antisemitic. Wiener is currently a candidate in the upcoming general election for the San Francisco-based 11th Congressional District. Separately, San Francisco police reported five arrests related to vandalism and assault during the event, with two officers sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.
