Florida toddler found dead in SUV after father mistakenly believes he was dropped off at daycare

A 23-month-old boy was found dead on Monday inside an SUV outside A World of Discovery Academy in Plantation, Florida, after his father mistakenly thought he had dropped him off at daycare. The Plantation Police Department and Plantation Fire Department responded to a report of an unresponsive child at approximately 5:39 p.m. Firefighters pronounced the child dead at the scene. Leslie Novoa, the owner of the daycare, stated that she called 911 along with the child's father after the child was discovered in the back seat of the vehicle. Novoa indicated that the father realized he had forgotten to drop off his child when he arrived at the daycare to pick him up. The daycare later released a statement expressing condolences and offering support to the family. According to Kids and Car Safety, approximately 40 children die in hot cars each year in the United States, with about half of those deaths occurring when a parent or caregiver unintentionally leaves a child inside a vehicle. The circumstances surrounding the child's death are under investigation by the Plantation police.
