Phil Weiser Wins Democratic Nomination for Colorado Governor

Phil Weiser, the Attorney General of Colorado, has been projected to win the Democratic nomination in the gubernatorial primary, defeating incumbent Senator Michael Bennet. This outcome was unexpected as Bennet was considered the front-runner in the race. The primary focused on how Democrats would respond to former President Trump, with Bennet facing criticism for his confirmation votes for some Trump administration officials. At his election watch party, Weiser received a warm reception as he announced his victory and shared that Bennet had called to offer his congratulations. Weiser stated, "For over a year, the establishment pundits and so many others said this wouldn’t be a race at all, it would be a coronation. They counted us out, and they underestimated all of you. Together, we pushed forward. We did the hard work, and we proved the establishment wrong." Weiser has served as attorney general since 2019 and has a record of suing the Trump administration 66 times. The Democratic Party has held the governor's seat in Colorado since 2007, and the new nominee will succeed Governor Jared Polis, who is term-limited.
