North Carolina Governor Criticized for Not Participating in America 250 Event

The fair, which runs until July 10, features various themes celebrating American history and culture, and each state was offered exhibition space. A spokesperson for the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources explained that the state's limited resources were focused on America 250 events within North Carolina, including a celebration at the State Capitol on July 4. Edwards expressed skepticism about the budget concerns, suggesting it was a political statement. Other Democratic governors, including Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Tina Kotek of Oregon, also opted out of the event due to concerns about partisanship. Controversy arose over the display of Confederate flags at the North Carolina booth, which were later removed by fair organizers. Governor Stein condemned the flags, stating they do not represent the state he loves and emphasized that America 250 is about unity.
