9/11 Museum CEO Discusses Impact of Terror Attacks on America's 250th Anniversary

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Elizabeth L. Hillman, President and CEO of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, noted that this year also marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Hillman emphasized the connection between these milestones, stating that the events of 9/11 are an integral part of the nation's history. Nearly 3,000 individuals lost their lives in the attacks when hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. Hillman highlighted the importance of educating future generations about the attacks to ensure they understand their significance and the nation's recovery. She remarked on the resilience demonstrated in the aftermath of the tragedy, stating that it serves as a reminder of the nation's ability to heal and rebuild. The museum recently opened an exhibition titled "Our Flag Was Still There," showcasing artifacts and stories of resilience from first responders and veterans. Hillman mentioned plans to honor the victims by placing American flags at their names on the memorial and to offer free admission to veterans in recognition of their service following 9/11.
