Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA) expressed his views on the Democratic Party's left wing during a recent interview with CNN's Dana Bash. He emphasized his identity as a patriotic American while advocating for a Democratic Party that honors its historical roots. Shapiro's remarks came during a tour of Philadelphia, coinciding with the country's 250th anniversary. He acknowledged the need for improvements in the U.S. healthcare system and economic challenges, stating, "I’m proud to be a patriotic American, I’m also mindful that we have work to do, and I don’t think that’s mutually exclusive."
Shapiro criticized what he termed "performative politics" within Congress, suggesting that actions aimed at gaining media attention do not necessarily improve people's lives. He also addressed the election of Darializa Avila Chevalier, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, stating that while her district elected her, he holds significant differences in values and beliefs compared to her. Shapiro concluded by asserting that Democrats need to unify around their beliefs to effectively serve the American people.
