Cenk Uygur Accuses Media of Targeting Graham Platner Amid Allegations

Cenk Uygur, CEO and founder of 'The Young Turks,' criticized mainstream media on social media, alleging they are 'politically assassinating' Graham Platner, a Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Maine. This statement followed allegations made by Jenny Racicot, who claimed that Platner forced her to have sex against her will in 2021. Platner has denied these allegations, describing them as 'troubling, serious and false' in a video released by his campaign. He stated that his campaign is reflecting on the best path forward due to the 'inaccuracy of the reporting.' The allegations have led to significant backlash, with some Democrats withdrawing their endorsements and calling for Platner to exit the race. Uygur defended Platner and warned against the Democratic Party replacing him with candidates who support corporate PACs and U.S. support for Israel. He suggested that those who support Platner may also face character attacks from the media. Uygur has previously claimed that the media's focus on Platner is linked to his opposition to Israel. The controversy has also drawn attention to Platner's past, including a tattoo of a Nazi symbol, which he claimed he was unaware of until it became a campaign issue. Despite the allegations, Platner has not withdrawn from the race but is considering his campaign's future.
