Maine State Rep. Valli Geiger Considered as Potential Senate Candidate

Maine state Representative Valli Geiger, a Democrat from Rockland, has gained attention after Democratic Senate nominee Graham Platner suggested she consider running for his position if he withdraws from the race. Geiger has not been officially named as a replacement nominee, and Platner has not formally exited the race. Geiger stated that Platner called her to discuss the possibility and praised her as a 'fighter.' Platner's campaign confirmed he encouraged Geiger to consider running but has not made an endorsement decision. Geiger expressed her support for Platner while also acknowledging the allegations made against him. She has served as a state representative for three terms and has a background in nursing and health policy. Other Democrats are also being considered for the nomination should Platner withdraw, including former gubernatorial candidate Troy Jackson and Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. Maine law requires that if Platner withdraws by July 13, a new nominee must be selected by July 27.
