Zelensky Sends Letter to Trump Regarding Ukraine's Missile Defense Shortages

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump highlighting Ukraine's critical shortage of air defense systems, particularly anti-ballistic missile capabilities. This communication comes amid intensified aerial attacks from Russia, which has threatened further strikes on Ukraine's decision-making centers. Zelensky emphasized the reliance on U.S. support for missile defense, stating, "When it comes to air defense against missiles, we rely on our friends." He expressed concerns over the limited supply of Patriot interceptors and other Western systems, which may not withstand ongoing bombardments. The letter was reportedly distributed by Ukraine's ambassador to the U.S., Olha Stefanishyna, to various U.S. officials, including House Speaker Mike Johnson. Zelensky requested continued engagement from the U.S. Congress to secure additional air defense systems, citing the urgent need to protect Ukraine from Russian missile attacks. He noted that the current pace of weapon deliveries through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program is insufficient given the escalating threat. The letter also mentioned a recent large-scale Russian assault that involved the launch of 90 missiles and 600 drones. Zelensky asserted that the majority of Russian missiles could be intercepted with adequate support.
