Wally Funk, aviation pioneer and oldest woman in space, dies at 87

Wally Funk, an aviation pioneer who became the oldest woman to travel into space, has died at the age of 87. Funk passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening at her apartment in an assisted living facility in Grapevine, Texas, according to city councilwoman and close friend Duff O’Dell. O’Dell, who was Funk’s caregiver, stated that she was by Funk’s side at the time of her passing. Funk had experienced several falls recently and was dealing with an infection in her leg, which O’Dell noted had taken a toll on her health.
